A Sense of Jane

Where secrets are held and passed on.
An evocative, captivating historical novel with a twist, inspired by a true story.
Born illegitimately in rural Scotland in 1857, Jane lives the life of one family but carries the name of another, and suffers the consequences. This family saga follows the life of Jane who carries the burden of being illegitimate at a time when the belief in superstition is as strong as the whisky.
A secret lives in Jane, and as the ghosts of the past reside quietly within the peaks and troughs of her life, will she learn how to thrive in a sometimes cruel world?
World politics gather pace and as the horrors of WW1 encompass life can Jane face her inner fears and will her secret be exposed?

Charlie's Ghost of a Chance

Nothing is as it seems in this historical family saga with an ending you won't see coming.
One boy's fate determines his survival.
1800's Scotland.
Charlie Robertson is born into poverty in 1878 in rural Dufftown. At the age of four, following his mother's death, he is sent to live with relatives in Aberdeen where he has the chance to live a life of wealth. Set against the class divides of 1800's Scotland, young Charlie is torn between the life he was born into and the one thrust upon him.
Aberdeen gives him a rare chance to be highly educated and mould himself into a gentleman - a path that could change his life forever. He meets Alice, his childhood sweetheart, strong willed and spirited, who eases Charlie's grief and longing for his old home.
Robert Ross, Charlie's grandfather, is a ruthless patriarch and womaniser who refuses to accept Charlie into his family and is determined to sever his grandson's political aspirations in order to protect his own interests and place in society.
Hated by his grandfather and loved by Alice, will Charlie succeed in life?
How far will Robert go to see his grandson fail?
A twist of fate results in an ending you won't see coming.

Life as I Know It

A little book of poems to both move and entertain.
Each poem is an interpretation of the world around me. Some are witty, some are thought provoking and others question the world we live in.

About Me
Veryan marries historical fiction with an otherworldly twist to create compelling and evocative books. She lives in the Scottish Highlands, overlooking the sea, and is inspired by the countryside and historic buildings around her.
Her debut novel ‘A Sense of Jane’ was inspired by the life of her great grandmother born illegitimately in 1857. An interest in research resulted in a love of all things Victorian and the desire to put Jane's life into words.
Her second novel, ‘Charlie’s Ghost of a Chance,’ a work of fiction, is the first in a series which follows the Ross family in Aberdeen where the life of the gentry involves ambition, scandal and betrayal. She is currently penning its sequel, ‘Scandal at Balfour Hall.’
There is always a ghost or two woven into her stories which weaves an air of mystery and intrigue through them.
Having dabbled in poetry all of her life, Veryan compiled a wee book of poems describing life as she sees it through the eyes of a middle aged woman with a passion for all things Scotland, a list of banes in her life and a desire to free all pets and save the planet from humans.
Veryan has a love of words and finds it intriguing that when put together sentences form and books are written. Don’t ask her to understand colons and semi colons though.
